Walk-out basements

A walk-out is a lot feature before it is a house feature: it needs the ground to fall away behind the house, which is why they cluster on ravine lots and the sloped pockets of north Whitby, Pickering and Uxbridge.

It is also what most buyers mean when they ask about a basement they could rent out or run as a self-contained second space — a separate door at ground level, and full-height windows instead of a light well. Walk-ups, where the stairs come up to a door at the side, are included here too.
